Treasure Valley book events: Story time, publishing for beginners, more

Story times: The Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Ada, Caldwell and Nampa public libraries offer story programs for children of all ages. Go to their websites and click on the calendar to check out the offerings.

A Summer Reading Event with Rosanne Parry: 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5, The Rediscovered Bookshop, 180 N. 8th St., Boise. Hear Portland author Rosanne Parry speak about her award-winning novels: “Heart of Shepherd,” “Second Fiddle” and “Written in Stone.” Parry will take us on a Geocaching adventure during her time here in Boise. Come to the store at 1 p.m. to get your first set of clues.

Become an Author: Book Publishing for Beginners: 6 p.m. Monday, June 6, Meridian Library, 1326 W. Cherry Lane. Join author Michael Strickland as he discusses how to get published as an author. Training with Strickland will last one hour, followed by one hour of free time for participants to write.

Morning Book Club: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, Meridian Library at Cherry Lane. We will be discussing the second half to “And the Ladies of the Club” by Helen Hooven Santmyer.

Tween Creative Writing Club: 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, Meridian Library at Cherry Lane. Aspiring writers ages 9-12 will work on writing projects, learn writing techniques and read and critique each other’s work in a safe and supportive environment. Stories, poems, comics, scripts — all writers are welcome.

Poetry Slam: 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, Meridian Library Silverstone Branch, 3531 E. Overland Road. Sign-ups are at 7:30 p.m., slam starts at 8. Come share your poetry and hear some amazing pieces by local artists.

Book Club: 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, Garden City Library, 6015 N. Glenwood St. “Some Luck” by Jane Smiley.

Graphic Novel Book Club: 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, Meridian Library at Cherry Lane. We will be meeting twice a month for graphic novels, pizza and awesome comic stuff. Our first novel this month is “Cardboard” by Doug TenNapel.

Reading series: 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, The Rediscovered Bookshop, Boise. Join The Rediscovered Bookshop and the Selway-Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation for a new reading series featuring local and regional authors that specialize in Idaho outdoors and conservation. This month’s speaker will be Michael J. Dax, author of “Grizzly West.” RSVP to the event at the bookstore’s Facebook page.

Book launch: 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 10, The Rediscovered Bookshop, Boise. Launch and signing for the BSU-published book “The Other Idahoans: Forgotten Stories of the Boise Valley,” featuring drinks, finger foods and, of course, the authors themselves. RSVP at the bookstore’s Facebook page.

Mary Hallock Foote Centennial Celebration: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, Boise Public Library, main branch, 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mary Hallock Foote Day at the Boise Carnegie Library that paid tribute to her as an author, illustrator and founding member of the Columbian Club. There will be dramatic presentations, speakers about Foote’s writing and drawings, displays, a historical fashion show and much more.
