Story times and book clubs: Area public libraries offer story programs for children of all ages and book clubs for youths and adults. Go to their websites and click on the calendar to check out the offerings.

Books & Brews at Highlands Hollow: 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 10, Highlands Hollow, 2455 N. Hollow Lane, Boise. Books & Brews is not your usual book club. Join us at Highlands Hollow Brewhouse on the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. to enjoy a relaxed chat about books. Guests can come and talk about what they’re reading and hear about what others are enjoying. Facilitated by library staff.

Local Author Monday: 7-8 p.m. Monday, July 10, Rediscovered Books, 180 N. 8th St., Boise. This day’s panel will include Elaine Ambrose, author of “Midlife Happy Hour,” Charla Miller, author of “Wonder and Beauty” and Ron Whittaker, author of “Search for the Flat Ness Monster.”

Free Drop-In Writing Workshop: 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, The Cabin, 801 S. Capitol Blvd., Boise. Drop-in is hosted by alternately by writers Danny Stewart and Heidi Kraay who create unique prompts designed to inspire a supportive community of local writers. This month’s workshop is hosted by Stewart.

Kate Peterson author event: 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, Rediscovered Books, Boise. Book signing and release party for “You’re Weird,” a creative journal created by Boise author and illustrator Kate Peterson.

Teen Reading Group: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, Boise Public Library Hillcrest branch, 5246 W. Overland Road. The Library! at Hillcrest has created a reading group just for teens which explores diversity and multiculturalism. The group is open to anyone ages 13-18, and will focus on contemporary young-adult fiction, non-fiction, and online articles. The first meeting will serve as an introductory session, with no suggested reading necessary prior to the event. The program will take place monthly.

Writer’s Bloc Presents: Hilarey Johnson: 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, unBound Flexible Open Space, 713 N. Main St., Meridian. Hilarey Johnson was a competitor in the Meridian Writers 2017 program with her novel “Heart of Petra.” Her other books include “Sovereign Ground” and the “Dance of the Crane” series. Join us for writing talk and refreshments!

Comic Book Book Club: 6-6:45 Thursday, July 13, Spacebar Arcade, 200 N. Capitol Blvd., Boise. Grab a beer and get nerdy with us. July is for Reading Recommendations! Bring in your favorite or currently-reading comic book / graphic novel, and tell us why you love it! Chat about comic books with us over a brew and a slice at the Spacebar Arcade!

Wizard World Book Club: 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 14, Boise Public Library main branch, 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Do you love Harry Potter? Are you the type of person who never stops talking about lightning scars, herbology, quidditch, and horcruxes? If so join us each month starting in June as we read or reread one of the Harry Potter books in celebration of JK Rowling’s Wizard World Book Club. This month’s book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We will talk about the book, eat snacks, and watch clips from the Harry Potter movie of the same name.

Boise Bookmarks: Citywide Readers & Reviewers Club for Teens: 3:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, Boise Public Library main branch. If you are passionate about books and reading, are in 7th-12th grade and live in the Boise area, the Boise Bookmarks are looking for you! We’re not your average book club — we don’t all read the same book and discuss it. Instead, we all read whatever we want and tell each other about the books. You’ll leave with a ton of titles to add to your TBR pile and meet teens from all over the city.

Dave Butler and Christopher Husberg author talk: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, Rediscovered Books, Boise. Dave Butler is the author of “Witchy Eye,” and Christopher Husberg is the author of “Chaos Queen: Duskfall.”
