First Thursday heats up Downtown Boise with art, literature

▪  Explore the beauty of landscape with the more than 100 members of the Plein Air Painters of Idaho at The Alaska Center, 1020 W Main St. You’ll see images of Idaho’s scenic byways, pastures and mountains, including Christina Karras’ “Boulder Lake.” 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, as well as 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday Aug. 5.

▪  See work by Eagle-based painter Toby Davis at Evermore Prints, 780 W. Main St. You can experience his intense colored oils of Boise city streets and a curated selection of cocktails from The Mode Lounge.

▪  Drop into Ming Studios, 420 S. 6th St., for the “The Elements of Horror,” a free writing workshop produced by Nampa’s Death Rattle Writers Festival. Festival co-founder, writer, poet and film artist Diana Forgione will share some tricks for creating chilling atmosphere in your work. Be prepared to write.
