Opera Idaho presents “The Pirates of Penzance,” performed by the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America’s pre-eminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory company. This lively touring production is of arguably the funniest and most clever operetta by the composing duo. It features a stellar cast performing songs ranging from the fast and furious “The Very Model of a Modern Major General” to the lyrically sweet “Poor Wandering One.” In it, Frederic is mistakenly apprenticed to pirates, instead of pilots. When he comes of age and can break out on his own, he discovers that because he was born on Leap Day he’s not really 21 and must serve another 63 years.
7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, Morrison Center, 2201 Cesar Chavez Lane, Boise. $25.50-$76.50. Ticketmaster. OperaIdaho.org.
