December's First Thursday will be lively and festive

Here’s what’s happening on December’s First Thursday

After the usual First Thursday cruise, swing by The Red Feather Lounge, 246 N. 8th St., Boise, for something a little different.

Starting at 8 p.m. visual artist Cody Rutty and DJs Matt Dally and Patrick Benolkin will collaborate on “Detach,” a musical and digital art installation.

The trio seeks to creatively bridge the gap between analogue and digital technologies.

Rutty will respond in real time to the DJ Benoklin’s music by creating digital projections from “analog” or traditional art mediums. Rutty blends idea from architecture and scientific phenomenon, such as fractals, to inform his highly complex artwork.

His projections onto the Red Feather walls will in turn influence DJ Dally’s mixing.

“This interplay between the improvised visualizations and live mixing will create a fleeting, one-of-a-kind experience that examines what can occur when collaborative, cross-medium dialog is largely left up to the human algorithm,” Dalley says.

As the music will inform the artist’s output, video equipment will project the visual aspect of his process onto the walls of Red Feather, which will in turn influence the DJ’s mixing.

This interplay between the improvised visualizations and live mixing will create a fleeting, one-of-a-kind experience that examines what can occur when collaborative, cross-medium dialog is largely left up to the human algorithm.
