Don't know if anyone remembers but it was first lady Laura Bush who helped put Boise novelist Tony Doerr's first story collection, "The Shell Collector," on the national radar.

The novel about the lives of two children growing up during World War II and the development of radio was a finalist for the 2014 National Book Award.
