Check out the 44th Street Wineries Mural Project

The winemakers at Cinder Winery, Telaya Wine Co. and Coiled Wines — know a key fact about culture: wine and art go together. Wine is often poured at gallery openings and arts events; now you’ll find art at this creative wine venue.

Cinder’s Melanie Krause and Joe Schner, who own the building at 107 E. 44th St., Garden City, created a loft-style gallery space earlier this year in collaboration with Surel’s Place, an artist’s residency that’s a few blocks away. You'll find Surel’s Other Place in the loft above the tasting room.

Now the building will be come the site for five new murals on the exterior, as part of its “44th Street Wineries Mural Project," also with Surel’s Place.

The idea is to create five murals over the next five years. The first, with the working title of "Garden of Creativity" will be by Sector Seventeen artists Collin Pfeifer and Solomon “Hawk” Sahlein.

You can checkout the plans for the proposed mural, see the art in Surel's Other Place, enjoy food trucks and wine and beer by the glass. Make a $10 donation to the project — cash on the day of or via the campaign (there will be computers on site for that) — you will receive access to special "Library" tastings of “sold-out” wines, such as Cinder’s 2011 Tempranillo.

The Kickstarter crowd sourcing campaign launches June 27 and will run for 60 days, or until the full $5,000 is raised.
