It’s time to hoist a kalimotxo and learn the jota — Jaialdi is nearly here! Every five years Basques from around the region and the globe travel to Boise to celebrate their cultural roots and traditions. It happens over the annual San Inazio weekend, the celebration of the Basque patron saint, Ignatius. This year more than 30,000 people are expected to take over Downtown and other area venues with street dances, traditional sports competitions, folk dance, music and food.
July 28-Aug. 2, The Basque Block, Grove Street between Capitol Boulevard and 6th Street, and Expo Idaho, 5610 N. Glenwood St., Boise. Shuttles run every half-hour Aug. 1-2 between the venues.
