‘Hairspray’ hits Nampa

Nampa’s Spotlight Theatre will twist and shout with the musical “Hairspray.” It’s about Tracy Turnblad, a plump and plucky teen who charms the airwaves and teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on the Corny Collins Show TV dance show. The Marc Shaiman, Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan musical is based on John Waters’ cult classic comic film. Spotlight Theatre is a community theater that grew out of the Columbia High School drama program and casts students with more seasoned actors, singers and dancers.

7 p.m. April 9-11 and 16-18, Columbia High School, 301 S. Happy Valley Road, Nampa. $12 general, $10 seniors and students. Spotlight-theatre.com.
