Words & Deeds

The Boise Blues Society's run of exceptional events in 2014 continued this weekend with Sunday Blues in Julia Davis Park.
This year's festival drew a much larger crowd than in recent years; I'd estimate about 1,000 people materialized to see acts ranging from local teenage singer-guitarist Zack Quintana to headliner Hamilton Loomis. Boise Blues Society president Ken Harris called it "maybe our best-attended ever."
Loomis, a Texas vocalist and guitar player, is a consummate showman and crowd pleaser. He even let Quintana hop on stage for a guest guitar solo. Loomis and his crack band also worked cover-song teases such as Bob Marley's "Jammin' " into his own tunes. (I caught that on video; see below.)
