The man accused of murdering a Nampa couple five years ago will appear in court a day later than initially scheduled and for a different purpose.

Pete K. Roberts, 44, will be arraigned in 3rd District Court, where felonies are tried, at 9 a.m. Friday. He could enter a plea at that time.

Roberts had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Magistrate Court Thursday. But a grand jury indictment last week moved the case to District Court without the need for a public hearing to review the evidence in the Christmas 2003 murders of Bob and Idella Young.

Grand juries meet in secret, and on Nov. 12 the panel heard testimony from investigators as well as Roberts' ex-wife and acquaintances. Most of those witnesses also testified in the Nov. 5 hearing that established probable cause to arrest Roberts on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
