MERIDIAN - A 15-inch piece of PVC pipe that resembled an explosive device was found near a business Monday. It was left there by accident, Meridian police said.

From 20 to 25 people were evacuated from the building in the Red Stone Springs Plaza near Franklin Road and Stratford Drive while the Meridian police bomb squad investigated.

Meridian police Sgt. Stacy Arnold said the pipe was about 4 inches in diameter, had caps on each side, and was later determined to have sand inside.

The bomb squad was in the process of removing it when a man told police he used the object as a doorstop when he was moving equipment out of the building over the weekend, Arnold said.
