Landon Tatum, a 5-foot-11 guard who was the only player to start all 31 games last season for a South Plains College team that finished 27-4, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Idaho.
He averaged 7.1 points and 5.8 assists per game and shot 46 percent from the floor as the team’s leader in minutes played. His efforts earned him a spot on the Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and a selection to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Star Team.
“Landon is a strong, athletic point guard who has helped his team win at every level, as proven over the last two years at South Plains College where his team had a combined record of 57-9,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said. “He is a very good player, but a better person and we are extremely excited to have Landon as part of our Vandal basketball program.”
Said Tatum: "I felt the community is really behind the coaches. On my visit, everywhere we went people were coming up to them and congratulating them on their season and all the guys are excited about next season and looking to improve." As a freshman, Tatum averaged 6.1 points and 5.3 assists per game and helped the Texans to the NJCAA national title.
The 2007 graduate of O’Connor High School at Helotes, Texas, averaged 19 points, five rebounds and four assists in helping his team win a district championship.
