College of Southern Idaho basketball player Daequon Montreal (pronounced Day-kwon Montreal), a 6-foot-8 forward from Syracuse, N.Y., has agreed to play at Boise State, CSI coach Steve Gosar said Tuesday morning.
Montreal gave Boise State coaches a verbal agreement Sunday night, after a weekend visit in Boise, and hopes to sign paperwork Tuesday, Gosar said.
Montreal took recruiting visits to South Florida and Oral Roberts, Gosar said, and had recruiting interest from Fresno State, Kent State and St. John's.
"This is a level where he can be successful. ... This is a good fit for him,'' Gosar said.
The coach said Montreal is "an inside-outside guy who has really worked on his outside game. ... He's long and athletic and runs the floor really well. ... Boise is getting one heck of a player.''
Montreal, who played two seasons at the Twin Falls junior college program, has three years to play two seasons at Boise State. He started 22 of 28 games this past season, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds a game. He shot 54 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Montreal was a NJCAA honorable mention All-American for the CSI squad which finished 22-9 and lost in its conference tournament.
CSI is the same program that produced former Boise State star Reggie Larry. This year, the Golden Eagles had only one other sophomore recruit - forward Jay Watkins, who signed with the University of Utah in the fall.
