ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Meridian senior Dillon Gentry will be trying for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Rollie Lane title Saturday.

"It's going to be real tough," Gentry said. "I have a really good weight class with lots of real tough kids. It's going to be real interesting to see what happens."

Gentry, who has won Rollie titles at 103 pounds (2006), 112 (2007) and 119 (2008), is the top-seeded wrestler again this season at 119.

The senior has two 5A state championships at 103 (2006) and 119 (2008).

"I'm sure there's quite a few people that would agree with me that (Rollie Lane) is probably a tougher tournament than state," Gentry said.

NAMPA - The eventual winner of the 130-pound division at the 2009 Rollie Lane Invitational wrestling tournament will have the ultimate bragging rights.

Of the 16 wrestlers who advanced to the second day of the tournament, the top eight seeds have loaded resumes.

The two-day event continues at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track next to the Idaho Center in Nampa. The championship round is tentatively scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

"There's a lot of good wrestlers at 130 pounds," Mountain View High coach Cliff Laughlin said. "They are all competitive and they're all good athletes.

"They all know each other, so when they go out there and do battle, they know what the other guy's going to do and sometimes it just comes up to athleticism. The guy that's going to win is the better athlete or better at that time period."

Three of the 130-pound qualifiers are reigning state champions, including two who are also defending Rollie Lane champs.

American Falls' Paden Johnson and Salmon's Otto Phillips won state and Rollie last season. Johnson claimed the 130-pound 3A state and Rollie titles, while Phillips was the 3A 125-pound and Rollie winner.

Lewiston's Tracey Huffman rounds out the reigning state title holders in the class. He won the 5A 125-pound state championship a year ago.

At least five others - Mountain View's Holden Packard, Blackfoot's Kyle Williams, Borah's Shane Washburn, Burns, Oregon's Brendan Palmer and Nyssa, Oregon's Kyle Schoorl - have been state winners, placers or qualifiers in previous seasons.

Packard, a junior, knows he's in for a grueling day when the tournament continues Saturday, but he's eager to test his abilities against some of the best wrestlers from five states. Packard is 21-3 this season, which includes a win over third-seeded Huffman in a Rollie tune-up Thursday night.

Packard won the 103-pound 5A state championship in 2007 and finished as the 112-pound runner-up last year. A growth spurt between the 2008 and 2009 seasons bumped him into the 130-pound class, but he hasn't had any problem adjusting so far.

"It's a little different. The kids are a little stronger," Packard said after the second round of pod wrestling Friday evening. "But I lifted all summer and just got bigger so it feels the same to me right now (as 112)."

Packard and the Mavericks - the 2008 5A state champions - are trying to earn a Rollie Lane team championship after finishing second a year ago to Blackfoot.

Teams scores were not available at press time late Friday night.

"That's why we come to these tournaments is to see the competition and see how we do," Laughlin said. "We use it as a measuring stick."

Packard, like the majority of the wrestlers in his weight class, has high goals for the remainder of the season.

"I want to be undefeated for the rest of the season and win state again," Packard said. "And next year, too."
