BSU WOMEN PLAY TONIGHT

The Boise State women's basketball team will try to extend its 15-game WAC winning streak Monday at Fresno State.

The Broncos (8-7 overall, 1-0 WAC) haven't lost a regular-season WAC game since Jan. 10, 2008, at New Mexico State.

BSU will try to keep its streak alive against a Bulldog team (9-4, 0-0) that has owned the Broncos in California. BSU hasn't beaten Fresno State on its home court since the 2001-02 season.

Monday's game tips off at 8 p.m. MST and can be heard on KBSU (730 AM).

BSU returns home Jan. 12 for a game against Hawaii.

The Boise State men's basketball team capped a wild opening day in the WAC late Saturday by scoring a 70-58 win at Hawaii.

The Broncos' victory - their fourth in a row - meant all four visiting teams won on the first night of conference competition.

Idaho won at Nevada, while Louisiana Tech won at San Jose State and New Mexico State was victorious at Fresno State.

"It just goes to show you that it's always a crazy conference," said BSU junior Kurt Cunningham, who scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack in the win over Hawaii.

The Broncos (10-3 overall, 1-0 WAC) shot 50 percent from the field and made 7-of-13 shots from 3-point range and closed out the win by making 7-of-9 foul shots.

It was the second year in a row that BSU won at Hawaii. The Broncos had never beaten the Rainbow Warriors on their home court until last season.

"It's definitely a big win for us," Cunningham said. "With all of the travel, it's always a good win.

The Broncos were unable to book a flight out after Saturday's win, so they aren't scheduled to arrive back in Boise until late Monday.

That will give coach Greg Graham two days to prepare for Thursday night's home game against San Jose State. The Broncos then play host to Hawaii on Saturday night.

The seventh-year coach said coming home after a road win is a good thing.

"We've put ourselves in a good position," Graham said. "To me, (Saturday) was a huge win because it's only the second time we've won (at Hawaii) in seven years. To get a win anytime is good, but it's especially good at a place where we haven't won many."

Idaho coach Don Verlin knows the feeling. The Vandals won their WAC opener for the first time with a shocking 78-73 win at Nevada. The Vandals were 15-point underdogs.

"I can't tell you how excited I am for this program and we really need to feel good about this win," Verlin said. "Our guys have worked tremendously hard to get to this point and I can see us continuing to get better if we continue to see this type of effort."

Verlin's reward? A trip to Utah State. The first-year Idaho coach spent 11 years as Stew Morrill's assistant in Logan. The Aggies were the only team in the WAC not to lose a game at home last season.

Other WAC games Monday include Louisiana Tech at Hawaii and New Mexico State at San Jose State.
