Twenty-one football players who graduated from Idaho high schools, including six from the Treasure Valley, could win college national championships with Montana (NCAA FCS) and Carroll College (NAIA), beginning Friday when Montana takes on Richmond.
The Grizzlies (14-1) only tripped once in their path to the title game in Chattanooga, Tenn.: a 45-28 loss at Weber State, which they would later avenge in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
Montana has appeared in five national championship games in the last two decades, winning twice, and was the team to beat this season in the Big Sky Conference.
Carroll has won five of the last six NAIA national titles and is 60-2 in its last 62 games. The Saints, who are ranked No. 1, will take on No. 2 Sioux Falls on Saturday in a rematch of last year's title game, which was won by Carroll 17-9.
