Statewide coaches took into account more than championships when voting for the 33rd annual Idaho Statesman All-Idaho football teams.
This season's crop of players of the year features two state title winners and three whose play was outstanding enough to earn them recognition even when their teams didn't finish at the top.
Being named the player of the year in 2008 took more than one great game. It was about a season of standing out in the crowd. Here are the players of the year:
5A: Stanford-bound quarterback Taysom Hill lived up to the hype, leading Highland to a state championship.
4A: Running back Skylar Morgan shattered single-season and career rushing records at Minico, which advanced to the semifinals.
3A: Running back Caleb Crim, a Division I recruit, played in three straight state title games for Fruitland.
2A: Senior quarterback Rance Portenier carried Parma to the state championship while playing on a torn ACL.
1A: Senior quarterback JC Tucker was a scoring machine for Division II semifinalist Garden Valley.
