The high school football season kicked off with a bang with a Friday night full of rivalries and several games coming down to the final minutes, some even to the final play.
Players throughout the Treasure Valley stepped into new roles and stepped up for their teams. Below are some of the top performers from Week 1.

Week 1 game balls
NATE WEDDLE, MERIDIAN
The senior quarterback completed 28 of 44 passes for 338 yards and five touchdowns, and he ran for another score as Meridian rallied late to top Centennial 46-45.
Weddle hit Javon Woodall for a 17-yard TD with 1:43 left to pull the Warriors within one point, then he found Zach Kinzel for the do-or-die two-point conversion.
SAM SESSOU-DJOKOTO, CAPITAL
The junior broke loose for 222 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries as Capital beat Borah 37-19, the Eagles’ 16th win in their last 17 tries against their crosstown rival.
DEMONTE HORTON, SKYVIEW
The senior wide receiver hauled in 11 catches for 147 yards and three touchdowns, including a one-handed touchdown grab, as Skyview steamed past Lakeland 47-21.
CADE SMITH, NAMPA
The sophomore wide receiver only caught three passes. But he turned them into 93 yards and a pair of TDs as the Bulldogs snapped their 14-game losing streak with a 28-13 win over Caldwell.
