Idaho high school football games in the 5A and 3A classifications won’t start their mercy rule until the fourth quarter in 2017 under a new plan approved by the Idaho High School Activities Association. Games in the 4A and 2A classifications will still have a running clock in the third quarter.

Borah High linebacker George Tarlas will sign a full-ride scholarship with the Weber State football program on National Signing Day on Wednesday. Tarlas didn’t start playing football until two years ago. But the former Greek national basketball team player broke out this fall for the Lions.
Columbia High senior offensive lineman Brandon Kipper verbally committed to the University of Hawaii football program on Tuesday, picking the Rainbow Warriors over Army, UTEP, Montana, Montana State, Weber State and Portland State. He’s the fifth high school football player from the Boise area to commit to an FBS scholarship offer in the class of 2017.
The Idaho high school football mercy rule won’t take effect until the fourth quarter in the 5A and 3A classifications starting in 2017. The Idaho High School Activities Association passed the rule change at the request of coaches. But the 4A and 2A classification will still start their mercy rule after halftime.
