David Dust, a walk-on on Boise State’s 1992-93 Big Sky champion men’s basketball team, will take over the Emmett High boys basketball program next season.
Dust, 48, has coached as an assistant at Centennial, Borah, Boise, Meridian, Coeur d’Alene and Lakeland high schools. He also was an assistant at North Idaho College and a graduate assistant at Boise State. But Emmett will serve as his first head coaching job.
“I’ve done freshmen, sophomore and JV until I’ve been blue in the face,” Dust joked. “Basically every time I applied to a 5A type of job, I kept getting hit with no experience, no experience, no experience.”
The Centennial art teacher inherits an Emmett program that went 14-11 last season at the 3A level and won its first district title since 2002. The Huskies return to 4A this season after two years in the 3A classification.
Never miss a local story.
Dust replaces Greg Daniels, who went 36-35 in three years at Emmett.
