The first official day of the high school spring sports season was March 9. But the unofficial start always comes during spring break with the annual baseball and softball tournaments in the Treasure Valley.
The Bucks Bags Spring Classic kicks off Thursday around the area and runs through Saturday. The baseball tournament, which doesn’t crown a champion, features 27 teams — 11 from the Treasure Valley, 11 from southern and eastern Idaho and five from Oregon.
The former Idaho Sporting Goods Softball Tournament folded, making way for the Sugar Town Softball Tournament on Friday and Saturday at West Park in Nampa. The tournament starts with a 16-team bracket and guarantees everyone four games before the championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday. Powerhouse Eagle highlights the Sugar Town field as one of 12 Treasure Valley teams in the tournament.
