The State Cup, the Gem State’s top youth club soccer tournament, starts with 107 teams and more than 1,000 athletes competing for 13 titles. Action starts at 5 p.m. Friday at the Simplot Sports Complex in East Boise and continues at 9 a.m. each day until the championship round Monday. Titles on the line include boys and girls championships from the U-12 to U-17 levels, as well at the U-19 girls title.
State Cup champions earn automatic berths to the Far West Regionals in Boise on June 22-28. That national qualifier features more than 248 boys and girls teams and champions from 13 states, including two from California.
Three clubs have already clinched their spots to regionals. Last week, Ballistic SC of Idaho Falls won the boys U-18 title, and the Coeur d’Alene Sting won the girls U-18 title. The Boise Nationals’ U-19 boys squad advances as the only team in its field.
