The Coyotes saw their 16-point lead evaporate but did enough to escape with an 87-85 basketball win over Northwest on Thursday night.
C of I made two field goals in the final eight minutes and shot 5-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes. Joey Nebeker (Mebla High) led C of I (9-6, 4-2 Cascade) with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Aitor Zubizarreta added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Tucakovic (Borah High) led Northwest (8-9, 4-3) with 24 points.
C OF I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Coyotes gave up a big run to open the fourth quarter and couldn’t climb their way back, falling to Northwest 75-70 in Caldwell. Petra Lumpert lead C of I (3-9, 2-4 Cascade) with 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Madison Pilster scored 16, and Haylee Burnham added 13. Mariah Stacona (7-4, 3-4) led Northwest with 16 points.
NORTHWEST NAZARENE MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Crusaders fell down the stretch to Concordia 87-83 in Nampa. NNU (4-5, 0-3 GNAC) took an 82-81 lead with less than a minute to play, but two turnovers cost the Crusaders a shot at the win. Detwon Rogers led NNU with 22 points, while Mike Wright added 18. Drew Martin led Concordia (3-7, 1-2) with 30 points.

NNU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Crusaders used stout defense and rebounding to cruise past St. Martin’s 86-58 in Nampa. NNU (3-6, 1-2 GNAC) outrebounded the Saints 55-26 and held them to 24 percent shooting. CoCo Gall led NNU with 16 points, and Ellie Logan added 12 points along with eight rebounds. Krista Stabler led Saint Martin’s (3-7, 1-2) with 16 points.
IDAHO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Vandals opened Big Sky play in style, hitting nine first-half 3-pointers to cruise to a 92-55 home win over North Dakota. Idaho (9-4, 1-0) opened the game on a 12-4 run and pushed the lead to 50-23 by halftime. Christina Salvatore led Idaho with a season-high 21 points. Leah Szabla led UND (4-8, 0-1) with 11 points.
