Boise State coaches were reportedly in Texas checking out recruits during the Broncos' bye week, and they picked a good time with some commits playing their best games of the year. Receiver Akilian Butler scored three touchdowns and had 182 yards, while cornerback commit Ladarryl Blair scored a pair of TDs. Quarterback Brett Rypien's regular season ended with a loss, though he again went over the 300-yard mark.

— OL Garrett Larson, 6-4, 250, Fruitland HS
Larson played on the offensive and defensive lines in a 34-14 win over Kimberly to open the 3A playoffs Friday. The Grizzlies are now 7-2 and next play at Timberlake on Friday in the state quarterfinals.
— QB Brett Rypien, 6-2, 185, Shadle Park HS (Spokane, Wash.)
Though Rypien had another solid game, Shadle Park fell into the playoffs on a losing note in a 28-21 setback against Mt. Spokane on Friday. Rypien completed 31-of-42 passes for 349 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He ran for 49 yards on 11 carries. Shadle Park (6-3) will play at Kamiakin on Friday for a 3A playoff game. This season, Rypien has 3,309 yards on 253-of-387 passing with 39 touchdowns to nine interceptions with 331 rushing yards. (Spokesman.com)

Stewart and Nimitz did not play last week. They'll face MacArthur on Saturday in their season finale.

Butler had a huge game in West Mesquite's 54-13 win over Forney on Friday to help the Wranglers improve to 7-2. Butler hauled in seven passes for 182 yards and scored three touchdowns (8, 11, 60 yards). He has eight touchdown catches and a rushing TD this season. (DallasNews.com)

As South Oak Cliff continued its amazing play in recent weeks, Blair had a big part in the Bears' 62-6 win over Spruce on Thursday. Blair had three rushes for 52 yards, scoring TDs of 7 and 36 yards, and added a 15-yard catch. South Oak Cliff (6-3) has won six straight by a combined 363-40. (DallasNews.com)

Leesburg lost its fourth straight game in a 49-13 setback, falling to 3-6 this season. Stats were not available for Jefferson. Leesburg's season wraps up Friday against South Sumter.
— LB Drew Berger, 6-1, 220, Coeur d'Alene HS
Berger had an impact rushing the ball Friday in the Vikings' 55-33 5A playoff win at Meridian. Berger ran 10 times for 143 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win, plus had seven tackles (three for loss) on defense.
