Arlington (Texas) High running back Raymond Sheard (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) committed to Boise State on Sunday night after he returned home from his official visit.
Why didn’t he commit before he left?
“One thing I wanted to do as a man is I wanted to talk to my mom and my coach before I made that decision,” he said Monday.
Sheard rushed 201 times for 1,349 yards and 14 touchdowns this season with eight 100-yard games, according to maxpreps.com.
Never miss a local story.
The Broncos offered him a scholarship in the spring and the school was always his front-runner, but he wanted to visit before committing, he said.
He was impressed with the honesty of Harsin. He was the only coach, Sheard said, who didn’t make him promises about playing time.
Sheard’s goal is to play right away. Harsin told him that he’d be stuck behind starter Jay Ajayi next year if Ajayi returns for his senior season, Sheard said.
“That made me really happy,” Sheard said. “College coaches will say what you want them to say. I heard all that from every coach. Coach Harsin said, ‘Everything I say is going to be real and it’s going to be honest.’ Ever since I heard that, that made me want to go to Idaho to check out the school and check out the city. I loved it.”
