Note: Today I wrap up my series of blog posts looking at the former Boise State football players in the NFL. The full list is here. I’ll continue to post updates as I find them.
Here are updates on the final two NFL players from Boise State and one who apparently will retire:
— Former Boise State defensive tackle Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe, a free-agent signee, is listed as the third-team left defensive end with the San Diego Chargers. He plays in a 3-4 system.
— Former Boise State defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, a second-round draft pick this year, is out for 8-10 weeks with a broken foot. That means he likely will return sometime around Oct. 1.
— Former Boise State safety Quintin Mikell is all but done after 11 seasons in the NFL — the second-longest NFL career of any former Bronco. He was undrafted. “I never could have imagined that I’d make it this far,” he told me in April. Mikell, who was with the Panthers last season, had offseason foot surgery and still needed a cart to get around in April. Mikell recently told CSN Philly that he likely won’t return. "It would have to be the right situation. It would have to be worth it," he said. "Something crazy like a team in the playoff hunt for a championship would be great, but I'm just kind of taking my time right now. I'm enjoying life."
