Throughout his Boise State career, there has been one consistent thing about Thomas Sperbeck: that he will be consistent. He will catch multiple passes every game, probably for big yardage, and he will be unflappable.
“He always keeps his composure,” said his father, Marshall.
The Broncos’ all-time receiving yardage leader said Monday that when the senior class is honored Friday against UNLV, he’ll be the same he always is, calm and collected.
“I’m sure when I go out of the tunnel, it will kind of hit me,” Sperbeck said. “... Not emotional, I’ll be focused, but it will be a little weird walking out for possibly the last time.”
Senior linebacker Ben Weaver probably will be a little less stoic.
“This program’s done so much for me, and all my best friends are in here, it’s going to mean a lot,” he said.
For the most part Boise State has fared well on senior day in recent years, last year being an exception:
2015, vs. Air Force: L, 35-30
2014, vs. Utah State: W, 50-19
2013, vs. New Mexico: W, 45-17
2012, vs. Colorado State: W, 42-14
2011, vs. New Mexico: W, 45-0
2010, vs. Utah State: W, 50-14
2009, vs. New Mexico State: W, 42-7
2008, vs. Fresno State: W, 61-10

Asked to pick out his favorite catch, Sperbeck didn’t say his crazy balance along the side line against Wyoming last year or his no-look grab at Air Force in 2014. He picked his back corner grab in last year’s 55-0 win over Hawaii.
“Probably because I hadn’t caught that pass all week, and I wasn’t expecting the ball,” Sperbeck said. “The way it worked out was pretty crazy, I guess.”

UNLV will be without its No. 1 target Friday, as junior wide receiver Devonte Boyd suffered a broken arm in Saturday’s 69-66 win over Wyoming. Boyd has 45 receptions for 746 yards and four touchdowns.
Last season against the Broncos, Boyd had 116 yards. The team’s top pass catcher expected to play Friday is tight end Andrew Price, who has 13 receptions for 166 yards.
