Bronco fans are snapping up Fiesta Bowl championship gear as quickly as retail staff can unpack the boxes.
Fear not. More gear is on its way.
"The minute anything arrives that says anything about our win in the Fiesta Bowl, it's gone," said Kim Thomas, Boise State Bookstore director. "We can't keep the stuff on our shelves."
A new shipment of clothing arrived at the Boise State Bookstore Friday morning and more merchandise is on the way. Fans are scarfing up polo shirts, sweatshirts, hats, glassware, key chains, lapel pins and other items touting the Broncos' New Year's Day bowl victory.
Never miss a local story.
The Blue & Orange Store at Boise Towne Square mall received more than 50 boxes of Fiesta Bowl Champions hats, t-shirts, and sweatshirts Friday. Another shipment was anticipated for Friday evening as well as a special delivery this morning, according to Travis Hawkes of the Blue & Orange Store.
The Blue & Orange Store also has a Web site where fans can order merchandise. The Blue & Orange is not affiliated with BSU but is owned by Bronco boosters and season ticket holders. A percentage of all purchases of Boise State merchandise goes to the athletic department.
The Bronco's record-setting year also is setting records for the BSU Bookstore.
Bronco insignia merchandise sales of the Western Athletic Conference championship and the Fiesta Bowl reached $342,000 last month alone, Thomas said. Bronco gear total annual sales 10 years ago were $222,000.
"This has been by far the biggest insignia merchandise sales month in BSU history," Thomas said.
The bookstore and the Bronco Shop are the only retail outlets where the proceeds go directly back to the university for scholarships and other expenses.
Fans setting their sights on locker room Fiesta Bowl championship hats will have to wait a bit longer while Nike prints more hats.
"They aren't due to arrive until early February. However, customers can pre-order the locker room hats on our Web site, and we will ship them as soon as they arrive," Thomas said.
The same goes for two DVDs slated to arrive in February. One DVD features the Fox network's coverage of the Broncos' Fiesta Bowl victory and the other, produced by the Boise State Athletic Department, contains highlights of the entire 2006 season. Both can be pre-ordered online through the Bookstore Web site at www.boisestate.edu or the Bronco athletics page at www.broncosports.com.
The bookstore, in the Student Union Building at University Drive and Lincoln Avenue, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
