Emma Bates finished 16th overall, and her Boston Athletic Association trio won the team title at the United States Track and Field Women’s 10k Championship on Monday morning. Bates, running her first professional race, finished in 33 minutes, 53.5 seconds. Her teammates, Katie Matthews (10th) and Sarah Pagano (15th), helped the Unicorns finish in a combined 1 hour, 40 minutes, 45 seconds, beating adidas Rocky Mountain Elite by 6 seconds. Tansey Lystad, a fifth-year senior transfer from Portland who will compete in indoor and outdoor track for Boise State this season, was 52nd in 36:48.0. Molly Huddle won her 19th U.S. title in 31:20.4.
MEN’S GOLF: Keynan Fanslow tied a Northwest Nazarene record with a 5-under 67 in the first round, and he is tied with Oregon Tech’s Montana Frame for the individual lead at 8-under in the College of Idaho Invitational at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa. NNU’s first team is second in the 12-team tournament at 11-under 565, seven shots behind OIT, while the “B” team is fifth at 23-over. The C of I is eighth at 33-over.
C OF I WOMEN’S GOLF: The Yotes lead the five-team College of Idaho Invitational at Ridgecrest by four strokes over Rocky Mountain. The C of I is at 27-over 315, led by a 75 from Natalie Mullins (Eagle High), who is one shot off the lead.
NNU WOMEN’S GOLF: The Crusaders shot a 22-over 314 to finish Round 1 in fourth place at the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham.
