The Boise State men’s basketball team announced its upcoming schedule Wednesday, and coach Leon Rice said “again, I think it’s maybe one of the most difficult ones” he has had, now entering his seventh season leading the Broncos.
Boise State opens the regular season Nov. 12 against Northwest, preceded by two exhibition games, including one Nov. 5 against Northwest Christian, where Rice’s son Brock is a freshman.
In a 13-day span from Nov. 17-30, the Broncos play six games, with three in the Charleston Classic, one at home against Presbyterian, then a road game Nov. 28 at likely preseason top-10 Oregon before playing SMU at Taco Bell Arena just two days later. The Broncos also have back-to-back road games at Evansville (Dec. 3) and Loyola Marymount (Dec. 5) just two days and about 1,700 miles apart.
The team played four games in Costa Rica earlier this month, in part to help gain experience for a team that has eight players on the roster who are completely new or redshirted last season.
“We have big travel challenges, and the way I’m approaching it with my team is we had two games in one day down in Costa Rica,” Rice said. “They’re going to have adversity thrown at them.”
After the tough road swing that ends at LMU, the Broncos close out the nonconference schedule with three home games against Portland (Dec. 10), Idaho State (Dec. 18) and Cal State Northridge (Dec. 21) before beginning Mountain West play Dec. 28 at Utah State.
