Boise State’s James Webb III appeared to make a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired in overtime, but referees ruled, after hand-timing the review, that the shot was not taken on time. Anthony Drmic threw the inbound pass to Webb with 0.8 seconds left.
In the second overtime, the Rams took over, never trailing, and the frustration set in for the Broncos, with coach Leon Rice getting a technical foul with 1:09 remaining.
The Broncos’ Lonnie Jackson had a shot to tie it on a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left, but just missed. Senior guard Montigo Alford had a game-high 25 points for the Broncos (16-9, 7-5).
Halftime: Boise State needed to mix it up Wednesday, and it did with a unique look, having veterans Anthony Drmic and Nick Duncan come off the bench. Senior guard Montigo Alford, in his first start since Nov. 16, tied a career-high with 14 points in the first half alone as the Broncos trailed 36-34 at the break.

The Broncos, shooting less than 30 percent on 3-pointers in Mountain West play coming in, hit 8-of-12 in the first half. The Rams held a 19-15 rebounding advantage, including 5-1 on the offensive end. Senior guard Mikey Thompson had six points at the half for Boise State.

Colorado State (13-10, 5-5) leads the Mountain West in scoring with 80.3 points per game, a tough test for a struggling Boise State defense.
The two teams played Jan. 2 in Boise, an 84-80 win for the Broncos. Boise State can keep pace in the top tier of the conference race with a win, tied with New Mexico for second coming into Wednesday's game, a half-game ahead of Fresno State.

Boise State also announced before the game that sophomore guard Chandler Hutchison will not play because of a failure to meet an academic obligation. The Broncos, decked out in orange, will start Montigo Alford, James Webb III, Lonnie Jackson, Robin Jorch and Mikey Thompson. It is the first time Anthony Drmic or Nick Duncan will not have started a game they’ve appeared in this season.
