In a season of firsts, Boise State's men's basketball team is close to another — being ranked.
The Associated Press Top 25 was released Monday morning, and the Broncos are the second team outside the top 25, receiving 53 points. Murray State, at No. 25, got 79 points. The Broncos are the fourth team outside the top 25 in the USA Today coaches' poll, getting 18 points — Ohio State, at No. 25, got 42. Boise State (22-7, 12-4) travels to San Jose State on Wednesday and hosts Fresno State on Saturday.
Also on Monday, the Broncos' Derrick Marks earned his fourth Mountain West player of the week honor, as the senior guard scored 48 points in the Broncos' wins over New Mexico and San Diego State last week. It's his eighth career player of the week nod in the league, tying him for the second-most all-time. Teammate James Webb III earned the honor last Monday.
Boise State is seen as a likely NCAA Tournament team now, having won 12 of its last 13 games. At The Bracket Matrix, the Broncos are on 45 of the 99 mock brackets. Two key bracketologists — ESPN's Joe Lunardi and CBS Sports' Jerry Palm — both have the Broncos in.
