The Boise State men's basketball's eight straight wins have the Broncos right in the mix for an NCAA Tournament berth.
CBS Sports' Jerry Palm has Boise State in his field of 68, facing Michigan State in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio. That's where the Broncos played La Salle in 2013. In the latest edition of ESPN's Joe Lunardi's Bracketology, he has the Broncos the first team out of the field of 68, listed first among his "first four out." The Bracket Matrix tracks 85 mock brackets, and has Boise State on 17, coming in as the fourth team outside the field. The Broncos also appear on SI.com's Bubble Watch, which says they "are firmly in the at-large discussion."
The eight straight Mountain West wins have been noticed by national writers like ESPN's Andy Katz, who on Monday said Boise State is looking like the team to beat in the Mountain West. Boise State is third among Mountain West teams, 38th overall in the NCAA RPI.
Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel was among the media members at the annual Mock Selection Exercise, where attendees get to emulate what the NCAA Tournament selection process is like. In the gathering, Boise State was a 10-seed, opening in Seattle against 7-seed VCU.
Boise State (18-6, 8-3) plays at Fresno State (11-3, 6-5) at 5 p.m. Saturday (ESPN3). The Bulldogs have four scorers averaging 10.9 points or more per game, three are guards and the other listed as a guard/forward. Guard Marvelle Harris leads the team with 17.1 ppg and 5.3 rebounds per game. Boise State coach Leon Rice said he considers Harris an NBA prospect. Former Boise State signee Darnell Taylor plays for the Bulldogs, averaging 2.7 ppg and third on the team with 40 assists in 24 games with four starts.
