Boise State sophomore defensive end Kamalei Correa was named the Mountain West's defensive player of the week Monday.
Correa had two sacks, tying a career-high, and a career-best 3.5 tackles for loss in the Broncos' 55-30 over BYU on Friday. It is the second straight week a Bronco was named MW defensive player of the week and the fourth time this season a Boise State player has earned a weekly honor. Cornerback Donte Deayon earned it last week and running back Jay Ajayi has picked up the offense player of the week honor twice.
In eight games, Correa is tied for the team lead with 9.5 tackles for loss and is tops with 5.5 sacks. Chadd Cripe wrote about Correa before Boise State's game against Fresno State on Oct. 17. Check it out here. The Broncos are currently on a bye week and resume action Nov. 8 at New Mexico.
