For some people, winter means curling up on the couch and watching videos of their outdoor activities

Well, the good news is this winter you can do it with hundreds of other people.

And the bad news? You don't get to lay on your couch.

But there are three events scheduled, including two film tours, that will put all the outdoor action and gorgeous scenery on the big screen instead of on your television.

DRIFT

On Jan. 15, a local group dedicated to protecting and improving the South Fork of the Boise River will host "Drift", a 65-minute high-definition film that takes anglers on a world-wide fishing trip starting right next door in Oregon and including rivers in two other neighboring states.

Showtime is at 7 p.m. at the BSU Special Event Center. Tickets cost $10.

The event will also feature a short film highlighting work being done on the South Fork of the Boise, as well as upcoming projects by a collaboration of local fly fishing groups and state and federal agencies. Proceeds from the show will benefit projects on the South Fork.

"Drift" shows fly fishing in:

• Oregon's Deschutes River

• The North Bight of Andros Island in the Bahamas

• High-altitude rivers in Kashmir, India

• Southern Belize

• Montana's Bighorn River

• Utah's Green River

• Colorado's Frying Pan River

BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL

For the 13th straight year the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is stopping in Boise Feb. 1-3 for three nights of films at The Egyptian Theater in Boise.

Tickets to the festival are on sale now at all Select-A-Seat locations, online at www.idahotickets.com or by phone at 426-1494.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. Student and senior tickets are $12 and a three-night pass is available for $40. For ticket information call Select-A-Seat at 426-1494.

This year's tour features a collection of environmental, and adventure mountain films that ranges from remote landscapes and cultures to up close and personal adrenaline-packed action sports.

The tour is produced by Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre, and features award-winning films and audience favorites from approximately 300 films entered in the annual festival in Banff, Alberta.

Join the Boise Nordic Foundation when the tour brings the spirit of outdoor adventure to Boise, at the historic Egyptian Theatre February 1-3. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each night. Food and adult beverages will be served at the theatre. The Bogus Basin Junior Nordic Team will be back with the ever-popular prize raffle.

FLY FISHING FILM TOUR

The tour will have two stops in Idaho in February, starting in Ketchum on Feb. 11 and moving to Boise for the Feb. 12.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday at www.aegmedia.com/FlyFishingFilmTour/.

This popular film tour is in its third year and last year attracted about 600 people to the Boise event, which was one of the largest showings on the entire tour. The event is modeled after the Banff tour, with filmmakers submitting their works. Previous lineups have included films that focused on world travel and fly fishing, environmental issues and outright fish porn.

The lineup of films has not been announced yet. But it's a safe bet that AEG Media, which hosts the tour, will show portions of its newest flick, "Metalhead," which is about flyfishing for steelhead in the Northwest.

A trailer for the film can be seen at the AEG Web site at www.aegmedia.com.
