The Salmon River near Stanley is the place to be if you want to hook into a few trout and have a fish fry for dinner.
You can't beat that - fall fishing, fall camping and fish in the frying pan.
The Salmon River is low this time of year and ideal for fishing with worms, spinners or flies.
Some anglers are keeping it simple and drifting worms. That seems to be one of the best ways to catch fish.
The key is to get down deep in the holes, and it takes at least two split shots. There isn't much surface activity and fish don't hit until the worm sinks.
It sounds like if you're a spin or fly angler, you'll want to get down deep, too.
Anglers were doing well from Stanley downstream to Sunbeam Dam. A few campgrounds along the river are open through October.
Take a look at Idaho fishing regulations for the Salmon River.
Even though the limit for trout is six, you only can take trout with a clipped adipose fin.
DUCK VALLEY
If you're eager to get down to Duck Valley reservoirs, fishing should improve.
Fall weather is cooling off the reservoirs. Think about this area in the next few weeks.
Catch rates are 1.2 fish per hour at Mountain View Reservoir, with trout ranging 13 to 14 inches.
