Sun Valley Resort is ranked third for Overall Resort in North America by the annual SKI Magazine Reader’s Poll, currently on newsstands.
The 27th year of the magazine's poll provides an annual review of the Top 50 resorts in North America, with readers ranking resorts in 20 different categories including Snow, Lifts, Dining and Service.
The SKI survey is the longest-running annual resort survey in the winter sports industry. Last year Sun Valley Resort was fourth overall.
“This award truly reflects the combined efforts of our dedicated ownership, Sun Valley Resort staff and the greater community,” Sun Valley Resort General Manager and Vice President Tim Silva said in a press release.
Sun Valley Resort also earned Top 10 rankings in a number of categories, including Lifts (#1); Grooming, On-Mountain Food and Service (all #2’s); and Lodging, Dining, Character and Off-Hill Activities (all #3’s).
Sun Valley Resort also earned the #2 spot in a new category, Sustainability, as well as #2 for Overall Satisfaction. The resort also stayed within the top 10 for additional categories such as Après Ski, Family Programs, Scenery and Terrain Parks.
"These results affirm the resort’s goal to continually improve the guest experience and resort infrastructure year after year," resort officials said.
New for the 2014-15 ski season will be 25 acres of glade-skiing in the Frenchman’s area of Bald Mountain as a result of the resort’s partnership with the Ketchum Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service, which is proceeding with a large-scale tree-thinning project aimed at preserving healthy trees.
Also on the horizon is the resort’s expansive redesign and expansion of the famed Sun Valley Lodge, to include the June 2015 opening of a 20,000-square-foot spa and wellness center.
“This is an exciting time for Sun Valley Resort and the greater community of Ketchum,” says Silva. “With the recognition from our guests in the pages of SKI magazine, to the renovation and expansion of the Sun Valley Lodge, we are poised to continue offering guests what they desire – true hospitality matched with a superior ski experience.”
Sun Valley Resort opens for winter season on Nov. 27, offering 2,054 of skiable acreage and 3,400 continuous vertical feet on Bald Mountain, along with some of the most varied beginner, intermediate, and expert skiing and snowboarding terrain in North America.
