It's 4 miles in, which means an 8-mile round trip. Yikes!
Can I make it on cross-country skis? Well, I did or I wouldn't be writing this week's trail.
The trail to Shafer Butte campground at Bogus Basin's Nordic area is one heck of a long trek. At least it was for me, but there were some skate skiers on the trail who made it look easy.
The neat thing about the trail is that the farther out you get, the fewer skiers you see. The views along the way are gorgeous.
Never miss a local story.
The Shafer Butte campground is a winter wonderland with great views of the mountains to the north toward Idaho City. Give it a try.
