Playing Outdoors writer Chadd Cripe spent four days in the new Hemingway-Boulders Wilderness with a crew from Idaho Public Television’s “Outdoor Idaho” show. The final ascent to Ryan Peak, 11,714 feet above sea level, was a grueling adventure but it was worth the view.
On Monday, The Senate advanced a bill reopening federal agencies through Feb. 8 after Democrats relented and lifted their blockade against the legislation. The shutdown began Saturday after Democrats derailed a Republican measure that would have kept government open until Feb. 16. Democrats wanted to pressure the GOP to cut a deal protecting young immigrants from deportation and boosting federal spending.
Sage is a St. Luke's Health System staff member who gets called in when a patient is upset, confused or angry. "It's amazing to watch what (it does to) some of the folks that are in crisis, just the arrival of that friendly four-legged creature," the health system's security director said. Sage recently helped to calm an elderly patient at St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center who had been upset and wanted to leave the hospital. Sage was accompanied by Security Operations Supervisor Josh Schwenken.
Jackie and Jason Bargabos operate Aloha Auto, a repair shop on State Street near the intersection with 36th Street. The high volume intersection is being reconstructed by ACHD to create a roundabout traffic system that Jackie says will put traffic just five feet from her office window.
