I just received a letter from my Idaho senator, Fred Martin, listing the highlights of the 2016 legislative session. The letter lists some good things that were taken care of.
The sad part is that the Legislature failed to close the gap for 78,000 Idahoans without medical insurance. True, the Senate tried, but not hard enough, and the House failed miserably. It is a shame that the legislative “idiotology” has such a bitter hatred for Obamacare that 78,000 will suffer even longer than they should have. It is a disgrace that Idaho will be missing out on millions of federal dollars for not expanding Medicaid. Expanded Medicaid would benefit these people and at the same time save Idaho taxpayers from having to cover the health care losses caused by those unable to pay for their care.
Legislators should not even try to take any credit for “studying” the issue. It’s been already studied to death. Studying is simply a stall.
By the way, I am a registered Republican and I vote.
