I am a small-business owner with 45 employees in Meridian. As such I have to buy my own health insurance. The options for me regarding health insurance became dramatically worse once Obamacare came into force. My insurance rates went up 7 percent in 2014, 12 percent in 2015 and my recent notice says my rate will increase 25.6 percent for 2015. This is while my out of pocket on my high-deductible “catastrophic” HSA policy has gone up from $8,000 in 2014 to $13,250 for 2016. The “out of pocket” increase for 2015 to 2016 was 30 percent at the same time rates went up 25.6 percent. Unless you are indigent, Obamacare is a disaster if you have to buy your own insurance. If this continues, Obamacare coupled with the other onerous populist programs he is pushing (i.e. raising the minimum salary level to $50,000 in 2016) are going lead to many small businesses pulling the plug.
