The first time I visited the Wood River Valley I knew this was the place I wanted to live. When I finally had the opportunity to move here, I wasted no time in exploring some of the surrounding wild places, such as the Sawtooths and the Boulder-White Clouds.
The Boulder-White Clouds is an area whose beauty and ruggedness is on par with places such as Yosemite and Yellowstone. I find it odd to learn this area doesn’t have the same level of protection as these other national treasures. Since living here I have come to understand the history and controversy surrounding efforts to designate this region as wilderness, but considering the broad support, I am still surprised that previous Congressional attempts have fallen short.
I believe that dedicating my time and energy to helping secure the Boulder-Clouds lasting protection is a worthy endeavor. As someone who spends time in, and cares about, this environment, I have a responsibility to advocate for the protection of the public land we all treasure. I believe that supporting the national monument through actions such as writing policy-makers, talking to friends and writing this letter will serve that end, and I hope others will do the same.
