Regarding Courtney Lantz’s (May 29 letter) dislike of the Mike Luckovich cartoon and what Jeb Bush actually said about Iraq, the cartoon was spot on.
Megyn Kelly: “On the subject of Iraq, knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?”
Jeb Bush: “I would have, and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everybody, and so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got.”
Jeb actually had four-five different answers to the same question that week. The one Lantz referred to was his second or third crack at it, only after conservatives like Laura Ingraham pounded him: “No, Hillary wouldn’t, Hillary wouldn’t authorize the war now, if she knew what she knew now back then. No, of course not.”
Never miss a local story.
Finally Jeb admitted that he, too, would not have invaded, had he known what he knows now.
Jeb has had years to ponder this inevitable question. Rather telling that he didn’t have a better answer prepared on his first swing.
