Regarding Bowe Bergdahl, the Idaho Statesman reported that the U.S. Army allowed him to enlist after the U.S. Coast Guard discharged him. The U.S. Army accepted him. I hope people keep that in mind before they pass judgment on Bergdahl.
Secondly, in the end, I sadly wonder which will prove more brutal, more damaging to Bowe Bergdahl’s mind and soul — his five years as a prisoner of war at the hands of Taliban captors or his subsequent treatment by U.S. military courts, the media and the hateful reactions of Americans toward him? For myself, I am appalled at how cruel and unmerciful Americans have been toward this young man, who has already suffered immeasurably.
