In observing the fallout from the recent mass shooting in Oregon, the hypocrisy of many lawmakers became clearer. Many choose to blame mental health issues on the shootings. This is not unreasonable. Yet the same general voting bloc are the first to cut funding for mental health while giving business tax breaks and advantages citizens do not receive. I remember being furloughed for a lack of funding. If mental illness is the cause and not a lack of gun laws, then by not funding mental health initiatives the lawmakers are tacitly choosing to do nothing about these commonplace massacres. You can’t have it both ways.
