This is in response to Tim Woodward’s ice cream dilemma.
I, also, love rum raisin ice cream, as well as coffee brandy ice cream. Both of these flavors were sold by Howard Johnson’s when I worked for them in the late 1940s and early ’50s.
I have not found a source for the coffee brandy, but can save you time and travel by telling you Haagen-Dazs ice cream sells the rum raisin in their 14-oz size. I discovered it at the Rite Aid drugstore on the corner of Five Mile and Fairview. The manager was very accommodating in ordering extra quantities for me. I have also seen it in grocery store chains that carry the Haagen-Dazs brand.
I hope Tim can satisfy his longing for rum raisin without the long road trip.
Never miss a local story.
