The forced resignation of House Speaker John Boehner bodes ill for America. The id-driven right-wingnut minority that controls the Republican caucus and that deposed Boehner is following a conservative script that has been enacted a number of times; a script that calls for threats, intimidation and intransigence to get its way:
First: Do not cooperate. No matter what the other political groups propose, do not agree.
Second: Make unreasonable demands which the other political groups cannot meet.
Third: Use every legislative trick to bring the government to a halt.
Never miss a local story.
Fourth: Force the political leaders to put the extreme conservative faction in charge, even though it represents a minority of the country. Claim that by installing the conservatives, peace will come (ignoring the fact that the conservatives are the ones causing the damaging disunity).
Fifth: Once in power, assume dictatorial powers and destroy all opposing groups.
By following this script, Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany. If it worked for Hitler in 1933, it will work today for American’s conservatives.
Unless Americans rise up to stop this mad rush to extremism, the only option left in January 2017 will be to click one’s heels and shout: “Sieg Heil.”
