As a Meridian resident, voter and taxpayer, I would like to express my dismay at the Statesman’s coverage of the issues related to the West Ada School District board’s recent actions.
Fiscal responsibility is the main issue to me, and elements of Superintendent Linda Clark’s disputed contract that weren’t illuminated in the Statesman’s coverage should be shared with the public.
There have been no performance evaluations of Clark made public in several years. Without these evaluations it’s hard to see why the following perks in that contract were included:
• Unlike teachers and other employees, the canceled contract did not require her to make any contributions to her PERSI retirement account. It would have been paid in full by the district.

• Unused vacation days were to be fully reimbursed to her. Again, not a standard contract item.
• Clark’s contract would have provided for a bonus of 30 percent of her salary to be paid upon her retirement. Given that the school district is publicly funded it’s hard to understand why this item was considered affordable.
Every school district has more needs than state funding can cover. Rescinding this over-the-top compensation package shows responsibility and leadership by the West Ada School Board.
