Cesar Chavez said, “Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride.” (Address to the Commonwealth Club of California, Nov. 9, 1984.)
And therein lies the rub ... you cannot unlearn the idiocy and lies that have become the core beliefs of far too many of the willing Republican “base.” That Republican base is like the followers of ISIS-IS-ISIL, in thrall of the party’s public decapitations: the defunding of Planned Parenthood, the cuts to social programs that help the poor and disadvantaged, the repeated attempts to “kill” the ACA. Their movements to cede federal public lands to the states, given states’ inability to fund state land-management agencies, might necessitate selling those former “public” lands, akin to ISIS-IS-ISIL looting world heritage sites to fund their abominations. And then destroying those sites.
It is almost impossible to humiliate the followers of the GOP; they’re too proud of their stubborn ignorance and bigotry. They claim religious, social and fiscal superiority, yet isn’t “pride” one of their “deadly sins?”
Their loud and constant fear-mongering is terrorism, just (so far) a milder form thereof.
